Michigan State University is creating a new organization combining the MSU Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, Human Medicine and Nursing. It will be known as MSU Health Care.
MSU Trustees approved the new health organization at Friday’s meeting.
Dr. Norman Beauchamp Jr., associate provost and assistant vice president of health affairs at MSU, will chair the governing board of MSU Health Care. He says the 501(c)(3) independent organization will be able to form joint ventures with other health care provider groups. “By being able to do that,” Beauchamp explains, “we can provide comprehensive care, so when patients come to us we can provide our best care, but also make sure that we integrate with other organizations to provide the best in care.”
“One that I’m really happy about,” Beauchamp concludes, “would be a large physician organization, physician group, that would immediately extend the quality, the service, the access that we can provide across a third of the state.”
MSU Health Care will include 260 providers from 14 clinical departments at MSU.
Dr. Beauchamp says announcements on linkages with partners like physician groups can be expected in the next month or two.
