Jessica Yorko has announced she will not run for re-election to the Lansing city council's 4th ward seat.

After serving eight years as Lansing’s 4th ward representative, city council member Jessica Yorko has announced she will not be seeking re-election.

Yorko announced her decision through a post on Facebook. She cited medical issues as the reason for not running.

Lansing Park Board member Jim McClurken is now the only candidate who has filed to run in the fourth ward. While he says he wishes Yorko a speedy recovery, his focus remains on his campaign.

“This really doesn’t change anything," he said, "I’m still looking to hold an office that has a lot of important issues at stake and I’m still going to move forward with my campaign strategy and my effort to reach out to the people of the fourth ward to hear what they have to say and hopefully get their votes."

The deadline to file for city council is April 25th.
