Storms Bring Flooding, Power Outages to Parts of Midland Area

Heavy rains brought flooding to parts of Michigan, prompting authorities in the Midland area to caution people against unnecessary travel.

The Midland County sheriff’s office says water is deep enough Friday morning on some roads that vehicles are getting stuck. The National Weather Service says a flood warning is in effect for the Tittabawassee River after the area got 4 to 7 inches of rain.

Flood warnings also were issued in Gladwin, Isabella, Mecosta and Montcalm counties.

High winds and thunderstorms Thursday night and early Friday knocked out power to tens of thousands of homes and businesses. DTE Energy reports more than 69,000 customers were affected and power had been restored to at least 22,000 of them.

DTE’s power outages are concentrated in Monroe, Washtenaw and southern Wayne counties.
