The Lansing City Council has voted to change the name of a portion of Grand River Avenue to César E. Chávez Avenue.  WKAR's Karel Vega has more.

The Lansing State Journal reports the change comes after public hearings and negotiations between community members and city council members.

The renamed street honors the labor leader and civil rights and includes the parts of East Grand River Avenue beginning at Oakland Avenue to Washington Avenue and West Grand River Avenue from Washington to Pine.
