A Lansing non-profit organization is partnering with the Ingham County Health Department in hopes of tackling vaccine inequity. Cristo Rey Community Center is hosting walk-in vaccine appointments for the community.

Marino Baca Carmona was one of the dozens of individuals who received a COVID-19 vaccine during Cristo Rey Community Center’s walk-in clinic on Tuesday. He said coming here was easy and accessible.

“It's always good to have a vaccine in case you are traveling or you are just around groups of people who are out often. It's good to look out after our health," he said.

Joe Garcia, the CEO of Cristo Rey, said he is hoping to remove any barriers folks may have when attempting to access the vaccine.

“We are really targeting lower income, lower resourced, vulnerable populations in general, to make sure that they have equal access to receiving the vaccine," he added.

According to Garcia, a priority for the organization will be having bilingual people assisting with vaccinations.

"We try very hard because we're very aware of making sure that people feel comfortable. Everyone is treated with dignity, the dignity and respect that they deserve," he explained.

The next walk-in vaccination clinic is scheduled to take place Monday morning at Cristo Rey Community Center in Lansing.
