Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero introduces ex-Mayor David Hollister as chair of the administration's new 'Financial Health Team'

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero wants more 'blue ribbon' input on the city's shaky financial future.Bernero's forming a 15-member 'Financial Health Team" to review city finances and make recommendations.

Former Mayor David Hollister will chair the panel.

Bernero says Lansing faces ongoing budget deficits despite spending cuts totaling $60 million dollars since 2006.

"There are some very alarming trends that will, if left unchecked, it will be a cancer that eats away at our financial health, just as Mayor Hollister said," he says.

The group expects to take a close look at consolidation.  When asked if it would look at combining agencies, municipalities or city and county government, Hollister replied "Yes, yes and yes."

The Financial Health Team plans to issue a report and recommendations in March of next year.
