Michigan State University will open the Broad Art Museum on Saturday.

MSU officials and Eli Broad met with reporters today to talk about the new $40-million facility on the north side of campus.

Eli Broad expressed pride that his dream of helping bring the museum to his alma mater has become reality.

Broad and his wife Edythe provided the lead gift of $28-million. To date, MSU still needs to raise another $1.2-million to reach the fundraising goal for the museum.

The 46,000 square foot Broad Art Museum features pieces by contemporary artists, side by side with historic works.

A dedication ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, and the public will then be allowed their first glimpse inside.
