After 28 year career, EL police chief hangs up her badge

East Lansing police chief Juli Liebler is retiring.

Juli Liebler is retiring as East Lansing’s chief of police. Current State’s Kevin Lavery talks with her about her career.

After more than 25 years on the force, East Lansing’s top cop is hanging up her holster. Today, Chief  Juli Liebler is retiring from the ELPD. She began her career with the city as a parking enforcement officer and worked her way up the ranks to become chief in March of 2011.

Current State’s Kevin Lavery talks with Chief Liebler about her career and her plans for the future. She says one of the biggest changes in her profession over the years was the constant change of technology.

Kevin Lavery served as a general assignment reporter and occasional local host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered before retiring in 2023.
