The list of people running for mayor in Lansing has grown to five with the entry of Michael Joseph Gillenkirk. He joins city council member Judi Brown Clarke, state Representative Andy Schor, former council member Harold Leeman Jr. and Danny Trevino, whose family runs a medical marijuana operation.

Gillenkirk is a retiree with a work history at the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and the state Republican party. For six year, he’s been one of the piano musicians at Sparrow Hospital.

As had been expected, second ward city council member Tina Houghton has filed for re-election. At-large incumbent Kathie Dunbar has not yet filed.

The deadline to file to run for office in Lansing is Tuesday.

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
WKAR’s first live pledge drive since federal funding was eliminated is happening now. Our goal for the drive is $60,000 and reaching it will bring us one step closer to closing the federal funding gap.
