Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is asking the federal government to reconsider a decision by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to deny individual assistance to three counties in the Upper Peninsula.
Houghton, Gogebic and Menominee counties suffered severe flood damage from storms that occurred on June 16 and 17.
In a letter to FEMA officials, Snyder provides additional information about unmet community needs. The letter requests a reconsideration of the decision due the severity, magnitude, and impact of the disaster and need for assistance to households and individuals.
Snyder wrote that there remains a critical need for assistance to homeowners and businesses Houghton, Gogebic and Menominee counties "who have experienced extensive damage or property loss."
Snyder declared a "state of disaster," making available state resources in cooperation with local response and recovery efforts in the disaster area.
