WKAR Family produces the second video within the new video series on STEM vocabulary development through reading.

The second video, New Vocabulary Words Connect Kids to the Real World, encourages reading books to children as a way to help them conncet new vocabulary words to real world experiences. Using props while reading with children puts those words into a meaningful context. Caregivers can use the props to stop and focus on big words and then give kids child-friendly explanations they’ll remember!

Further celebrate the power of reading this summer with a series of events and activities hosted by WKAR and The Great American Read. The Great American Read is an eight-part series, hosted by Meredith Vieira, that explores and celebrates the power of reading, told through the prism of America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey). It investigates how and why writers create their fictional worlds, how we as readers are affected by these stories, and what these 100 different books have to say about our diverse nation and our shared human experience.
