WKAR Wins Public Television Station of the Year Award
(East Lansing, MI) WKAR-TV and Radio took home a collection of awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, including that of Public Television Station of the Year. Awards were presented at the Great Lakes Broadcast Conference during the Broadcast Excellence Awards ceremony March 14, in Lansing.
The Station of the Year award is based on the collective number of awards won and a narrative that includes off-air accomplishments. Special attention is given for community involvement.
WKAR-TV winning entries were:

Two Merit awards in the categories of Cultural and Performing Arts and Cultural and Arts, Tim Zeko

Merit Award, Children’s Programming, Mike Mihalus

Best Award, Membership Appeal category, Kevin Lavery

Best Award, Documentary category, Troy Hale, Geri Zeldes
In addition, 90.5 WKAR Radio producer Mark Bashore was honored with a Merit award for his piece “Patriots and Passion: Libyans in East Lansing.”
College of Communication Arts & Sciences students were also recognized in two categories. Emily Fox received an Honorable Mention in the News Feature Category and the series Focal Point was recognized with a Honorable Mention in the Newscast category. (Katie Masters, Lindsey Gordon and Amber McDonald.)

"We are committed to excellence in community involvement and public service, and this award signifies both the importance and value of that mission."
