The Michigan Farmers Market Conference takes place today and tomorrow as part of Agriculture and Natural Resources Week. The growth and expansion of farmers’ markets is one of the most visible aspects of Michigan’s vibrant local and regional food renaissance. This rapid market growth has created a need for educational and advocacy programs that protect and grow these venues and highlight the benefits and importance of Michigan agriculture.

The conference will offer three tracks: a market manager “boot camp” track designed to provide essential basic information for new and beginning market managers; an advanced manager track for those who have attended previous training sessions and are looking for specialized information; and a farmer track, designed especially for small and mid-sized farmers who direct market through farmers’ markets.

Dru Montri, owner of Ten Hens Farm in Bath and director of the Michigan Farmers Market Association, speaks with WKAR’s Peter Whorf about Michigan markets and this week’s conference.
