A federal judge has dealt a blow to a Michigan Indian tribe seeking to build a casino in downtown Lansing.
U.S. District Court Judge Robert Jonker has granted Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette’s request for a preliminary injunction to stop the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians from building the $245 million dollar project. Schuette contends the Chippewas have not completed a revenue sharing agreement with other tribes in the state, in violation of their governing compact with the state of Michigan.
