Michigan advocates assess LGBT landscape

Wikimedia commons

Last week, the Internal Revenue Service announced that for taxation purposes, it would recognize all legally marriedcouples, gay and straight. That’s regardless of whether they live in a state that allows gay marriage or the 37 others, Michigan included, that still ban it. Current State spoke with two of the area’s outspoken advocates for marriage equality and LGBT rights to talk about these developments.  Emily Dievendorf is Managing Director of the group Equality Michigan, and Nathan Triplett is an East Lansing city council member and the city’s Mayor Pro-Tem. Dievendorf expects that further clarification of the definition of marriage will be needed.
