The Oscars will be handed out next Sunday night. This is the 87th year for the Academy Awards. The subtle nuances of film make for an entertaining past time. Now, Michigan State University has created a new Bachelor of Arts program in film studies.Current State’s Kevin Lavery talks with Joshua Yumibe, an assistant professor at MSU and the director of film studies. He says even though it formally began last month, the film studies curriculum has been in the works for a long time.

Kevin Lavery served as a general assignment reporter and occasional local host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered before retiring in 2023.
