Staying afloat: Coast Guard Auxiliary celebrates 75 years

The weather is cold outside, but the boating season is not that far away.  In just two months, many boaters will be out on the water.

This year, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Jonathan M. Ahlbrand, Vice Flotilla Commander and public affairs officer, says the role of the Auxiliary is mainly boating safety and building awareness through public education.

Ahlbrand says approximately 85% of deaths on the water are preventable.
