International Women's Day on 90.5 Classical — March 8th, 2018

Public Domain - Fanny Mendelssohn: Piano Trio

March is Women's History Month and March 8th marks International Women's Day. All month on WKAR's 90.5 Classical, you'll find information about the influential voices in classical music as well as some of the voices repressed because of their gender, from Haydn's downstairs neighbor, to the youngest winner of the Pulitzer Prize for music.

On this page throughout the month of March, we'll assemble the various musicians being highlighted, plus add links to both hear their music and in some cases purchase the sheet music of their works.

Undine Smith Moore: Scenes from the Life of a Martyr
Broadcast on Friday, March 2nd as part of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's 40th annual Classical Roots concert Live Broadcast on WKAR.
Moore's 16-part oratorio from 1981 ruminates on the life and struggles of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. from this childhood until his assassination by incorporating spirituals, and Moore's settings of poetry & biblical passages.
