Remembering Rev. Michael Murphy

The Reverend Michael Murphy is being laid to rest today. Murphy spent more than 20 years in Lansing as founder of St. Stephen’s Community Church. He also served as a Lansing city council member and state Representative. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle of David Church in Lansing.In 2009, Rev. Murphy moved to Washington, D.C. where he was senior minister at the historic People’s Congregational United Church of Christ. He died on December 28th.

Current State host Mark Bashore spoke with Rev. Murphy at the time of his departure for Washington. He reflected on the work that went into renaming Lansing’s Logan Street in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Thursday is the anniversary of Dr. King’s birth.

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
