The Michigan College Access Network’s mission is to increase college readiness, participation, and completion for Michigan’s high school students. For Neighbors in Action this week, we speak to MCAN’s founder Brandy Johnson and Waverly High School counselor Ashley Justice.

A college degree is becoming increasingly more important in today’s job market, but many students feel higher education is out of their reach. The Michigan College Access Network’s mission is to increase college readiness, participation, and completion, particularly among low-income students, first-generation college-going students, and students of color.

For our Neighbors in Action segment this week, Current State speaks with Brandy Johnson, founder & Executive Director of MCAN, and Ashley Justice, a college counselor at Waverly High School, for this week's Neighbors in Action.

Current State is always looking for more nominations for our “Neighbors In Action” feature. Please help us out and e-mail us your suggestions to currentstate@wkar.org. Put ‘Neighbors in Action’ in the subject line. Or tweet us: @KARCurrentState and tell us a little about why you think they should be featured.
