New East Lansing Police Chief Is A Familiar Face

City of East Lansing
East Lansing Police Chief Larry Sparkes

The East Lansing police department promoted a veteran officer to police chief. Larry Sparkes will be sworn-in as the city's new police chief on August 25.

Sparkes beat two other finalists for the position of chief.

He has been on the ELPD force since 1987.  He started as a jail service officer then rose through the ranks, promoted to lieutenant in 2011 and captain in 2015.

Chief Sparkes will be sworn-in on August 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the East Lansing public library.
