EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State player Aslina Chua never imagined growing up that she would be playing college tennis in the United States or studying pre-med on the path to becoming a doctor.
Chua, a native of Malaysia, has come far from home to be part of a group that she describes as a second family. The Spartan tennis coaching staff emphasized the human element during her recruiting process, something she didn’t feel with other programs and universities.
Despite having played for Malaysia’s national women's tennis team, Chua now has pushed her pro tennis dreams to the side to fulfill her desire to give back through medicine.
Her story, and her road to MSU, is told for WKAR Current Sports beat reporter Zachary Barnes.

WKAR’s first live pledge drive since federal funding was eliminated is happening now. Our goal for the drive is $60,000 and reaching it will bring us one step closer to closing the federal funding gap.
