Victor Robinson Brings Peace To Detroit Using A Basketball

Victor Robinson

Victor D. Robinson is a talented young leader that has carved out a career in community and youth development, constantly honing his passion for giving back and uplifting communities within Detroit.

Robinson’s career aspirations and passion for community led him into his current role as Detroit Project Coordinator with PeacePlayers International. PeacePlayers has become renowned internationally as peace-building nonprofit that uses sport to unite, educate and inspire young people in divided communities.

Through a partnership with Nike, the program launched this summer in three U.S. cities (Detroit, Brooklyn and Baltimore.)  Robinson launched the Detroit program in July, securing four local partnerships, while providing free basketball programming to 80 young people, five days a week.  Whether it’s uplifting youth to become leaders or simply giving back to the communities that shaped him, Robinson thrives in empowering others to make a difference.

After graduating from Michigan State in 2010, Robinson moved to Texas and began working for multiple sports agencies such as Nike, the NBA D-League and NFL Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson's Touching Lives Foundation. Robinson discovered that he was more passionate about how sports bring people together, uplift communities and discipline the youth, especially young men without a father or without a home.  Robinson attributes his passion for helping others and giving back to his mother and his humble upbringing.

?In 2014, Robinson came back to Detroit and helped fundraisers to give back to the city.  Recently in March, an opportunity came across Robinson's desk to work with PeacePlayers. He said looking at the job description and knowing his background, he decided to apply. He got the job, and it has turned out to be the perfect fit.  The rest is history.

As the Detroit Project Coordinator, Robinson speaks on how he did research on who to partner up with in the city and his goals for the community.  He speaks on community cohesion, dialogue, breaking down barriers, and accepting other people's differences.
