LISTEN: Michigan State Student Discovers Her Home In Club Volleyball

It hasn’t been easy for Ella Cunningham to feel like she fit in – until she got to MSU.

Playing volleyball and being the only person of color on your team in high school is no easy task.

I felt left out, like I didn’t belong.

Until I came to MSU and made the women’s club volleyball team. I met the best friends of my life there who supported and encouraged me to be the best person I can be.

The team and the program are the reason I am who I am today, and it shaped my entire college experience.

I wouldn’t trade anything in the world for my time in the MSU Women’s Club Volleyball program, it means everything to me.

Now as I graduate, I want to share my journey:

Every WKAR News story you read is rooted in fact-based, local journalism, produced without commercial influence and available for free to everyone in mid-Michigan. No paywalls. Ever.

But this work doesn’t fund itself. With significant cuts to federal funding, public media is facing a critical moment. If you believe in journalism that serves the public interest, now is the time to act. Donate today.
