Maker of Solo Cups Plans $40M Technical Center in Michigan

A company that makes Solo and foam cups as well as plastic utensils and carryout containers is planning a $40 million technical and innovation center in Michigan.

The project is planned at Dart Container Corp.'s campus in the Lansing-area community of Mason. The food and beverage packaging maker's President Jim Lammers tells the Lansing State Journal that the center will help it develop new products and designs.

Site preparation on the two-story facility is underway and the project is expected to be complete by the end of 2018. Dart Container secured a $1 million grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. for the project.

MLive.com reports no changes are planned to the company's international operations while Dart focuses on the Michigan-centered investment.

Dart Container bought Solo Cup Co. in 2012.
