MSU LGBT director: $1 million bequest promotes acceptance now

msutoday.msu.edu, G.L. Kohuth

Last month it was announced that Michigan State University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center had received an anonymous gift of $1 million. The gift has been called the Support Outreach Action and Respect Fund (SOAR). It’s the largest donation in the history of Michigan State University’s LGBT resource center.

Current State is joined by Deanna Hurlbert, the Director of the LGBT Resource Center at Michigan State University. Hurlbert says that young adults are becoming more self-aware of their sexuality before they come to campus, so her work is more focused on getting the institution up to speed on the needs of these students.
