Pharmacies across Michigan will be giving away the Nasal spray form of Naloxone, also known as Narcan, to anyone on Saturday. No names, insurance or prescription is needed. A Lansing drug rehabilitation manager said it will help those affected by the opioid crisis.

The Narcan nasal spray can be given to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

According to the state, nearly 52,000 kits will be shipped to pharmacies across Michigan for distribution on September 14.

In Lansing and Jackson, many Central Pharmacy, CVS Pharmacy, Meijer, Rite Aid and Walmart Pharmacy locations will provide the kits.Click here for the complete list of addresses across Michigan distributing the kits

The state says the kits are limited to one per person. Anyone who wants one can get a kit. They don’t have to provide a name, insurance, payment or prescription.

Joshua Corts, manager of RISE Recovery Community in Lansing is in favor of the giveaway.

He said “Getting [Narcan] into the hands of as many people as we can is critical.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 399,000 Americans died from opioid overdoses from 1999-2017.

According to the State of Michigan, the number of deaths connected to opioids has grown from 183 in 2000 to 1,941 in 2017.
