Hannah Menne of Grand Ledge cares for her quarterhorse, Fancy, at the 2016 Spartan Stampede Rodeo.

There was plenty of horsing around this weekend at the MSU Pavilion. Thousands of people turned out for the 2016 Spartan Stampede Rodeo. Current State’s Kevin Lavery was there too.

If you were anywhere near the Pavilion in East Lansing this past weekend, you might have thought MSU stood for Montana State University. The 2016 Spartan Stampede Rodeo rolled into town, bringing cowboys and calves, bulls and broncs.

Current State’s Kevin Lavery saddled up with his recording gear on Saturday to check out the action.

Kevin Lavery served as a general assignment reporter and occasional local host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered before retiring in 2023.
