The East Lansing city council will not meet tonight to swear in two council members and elect leadership for the next two years. Mayor Mark Meadows says that’s because the results of last week’s election have not yet been certified.

A special meeting to swear in last week’s winners and elect leadership for the next two years had been planned for city hall at 6 p.m. tonight, but has now been canceled.

Last Tuesday, Ruth Beier was re-elected to council and newcomer Aaron Stephens won a seat over incumbent Susan Woods.

Meadows posted a message to his Facebook page that certification is expected on Wednesday and that Beier and Stephens will take their oaths of office next Monday. His post also indicates that the council will vote on who will serve as mayor and mayor pro-tem on Tuesday, November 21st.

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
