A former Lansing City Council president who authorities say took money from a concession stand he managed in 2016 has been convicted of embezzlement.
The Lansing State Journal reports an Ingham County Circuit Court jury on Thursday announced its verdict in the case of 60-year-old Harold Leeman Jr., who was on city council from 1996 to 2007 and its president in 2006 and 2007.
Officials said during the trial the money included purchases he made on a credit card that Gier Park Community Center Board members gave him access to so he could purchase gas. Lehman previously told the newspaper it involved about $1,100.
Defense lawyer Jared Austin said during the trial that Leeman intended to pay the money back, but had a series of hardships.
Sentencing is Jan. 17.
