Lansing Primary Absentee Ballots Going Out This Week

The city of Lansing primary election begins this week as absentee ballots are being prepped and mailed out.

A crew of election workers is preparing 5,000 absentee ballots to be mailed by Friday, and hundred more are projected to be mailed out over the coming weeks.

City Clerk Chris Swope says this number is higher than any other Lansing primary going back to at least 2003.

“We have been encouraging people, especially people over 60, to get on the permanent absent voter list so we continue to grow that list, so it’s not 100 percent certain that that means we’re going to have a greater turnout in August or if people are just using the absentee ballot option more. We’ll find that out on August 8th.”

If you’re a Lansing voter who wishes to vote with an absentee ballot, you can request one from the website lansingmi.gov/clerk, or you can go to the City Clerk’s office to get one. The South Washington Elections Unit location will open July 10th, and you can also receive one there. You have until 4 p.m. August 7th, the day before the August 8th election.
