A long-anticipated economic development project will be formally introduced at tonight’s Lansing City Council meeting.
The Red Cedar Renaissance project has been in the works for five years. The nearly $300 million initiative along Michigan Avenue is meant to bridge the cities of Lansing and East Lansing with a blend of hotel space, housing, retail and recreational facilities.
The project will be built at the site of the former Red Cedar golf course, an area that was not spared by last week’s flooding. It’s a public-private partnership that will be funded through bonds, private sources and tax increment financing. It’s expected to create nearly 400 jobs.
Red Cedar Renaissance will get its first public reading before the Lansing City Council tonight. A 30-day public consideration process will follow.
