An Ingham County judge has set a May 28 trial date in the sexual misconduct case of ex-Michigan State University dean William Strampel.
Strampel, the former head of the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, faces four charges, including fourth degree criminal sexual misconduct and felony misconduct in office.
Prosecutors say Strampel sexually harassed and assaulted female students, and kept pornography on his office computer.
Strampel’s attorney, John Dakmak, says the court will likely select a larger than normal jury pool for this case.
“With the nature of this case, you know you’re going to have people come forth and say, ‘I just can’t be a fair juror in this case,’ says Dakmak. “That’s understandable. You want to know that going in, so you just need more people.”
Strampel also faces two counts of willful neglect related to his actions during the investigation of former sports doctor Larry Nassar, who’s now in prison.
Strampel was Nassar’s supervisor during his tenure as dean.
