A new outdoor art exhibit in East Lansing features replicas of pieces from Michigan State University’s Broad Art Museum.

Decorating the Division Street parking garage along Albert Avenue are five different panels featuring reproductions from the Broad Art Museum. Around each panel is a set of chairs encouraging passersby to take a break and admire the work of art in front of them.

Peter Dewan, the former chair of the East Lansing Downtown Development Authority, said the project is part of a plan to attract more visitors and support small businesses in the area.

“There's nothing quite as transformational of walking into an area of the city. And all of a sudden, you look up and you see these beautiful renderings that are on the walls of parking facilities, adjacent businesses and it just brightens up the mood. It brightens up the space," he said.

He said the project aims to transform downtown into more of a cultural destination for visitors.

“What we hope to really celebrate is a community of the arts, a city of the arts," he added.

Dewan said as new pieces are installed, the current ones on display will be relocated to other public spaces.
