Lansing Mayor Appoints Captain Daryl Green To Police Chief

Lansing Capt. Daryl Green was named police chief by Lansing mayor Andy Schor on July 24, 2019.

Lansing mayor Andy Schor recommended on Wednesday that Lansing police Captain Daryl Green should be the city's next police chief. The Police Board of Commissioners must review and approve the appointment before it becomes official.

According to a city press release, Green joined the Lansing police department in 1997. He is currently captain of the Patrol Division. 

Chief Mike Yankowski retired from the force effective July 9.

Green is currently a Lieutenant in Naval Intelligence in the US Navy. He has served in the Navy for more than 18 years.

Green holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Western Michigan University.  His Master's degree in Criminal Justice was earned at Michigan State University. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science at Temple University. 

Green is married with three children.

The Police Board of Commissioners will review the mayor's appointment on August 20. The swearing-in can take place after that.
