In a message via Twitter on Sunday evening, Lisa Posthumus Lyons, the Republican nominee for Michigan’s Lt. Governor seat, said her home was heavily damaged in a fire. No one was injured.

The message said the home is likely a total loss.

It also said the fire started in the garage.  There’s no word yet on the cause of the fire.

”All of Lisa’s family members are accounted for and safe,” said the tweet.

In another message by Twitter, Posthumus said the house was in Alto and it was her childhood home. Alto is 50 miles west of Lansing in Kent County.

Lyons is the current Kent County Clerk and former state Representative.

While in the state Legislature, Lyons served as chair of the House Education Committee and House Elections and Ethics committee.

She was also an assistant majority floor leader.

On Twitter, Attorney General Bill Schuette, who is running for Governor, said his prayers are for his running mate and her family.

So far it’s not known how or if the fire will affect the campaigns.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer said she sorry to see Posthumus ‘ loss but glad she is okay.
