Supreme Court to take up Michigan casino case

Wikimedia commons

The United States Supreme Court recently agreed to hear the arguments for what kind of authority the state has over a Native American casino located in Vanderbilt, Michigan. The Bay Mills Indian Community opened the casino in 2010 with money from the federal government, intended to compensate for interest earned from underpaid land purchased from the tribe in the 1800’s.

Also on the tail of the University of Texas affirmative action decision, the Supreme Court is looking at a case in their next session involving the University of Michigan.  The court will be deciding if the state’s constitutional ban of race and gender based affirmative action creates an excluded group.
