The challenge of Ramadan fasting inspires cookbook

This week is the official start of the Muslim holiday Ramadan. While part of the month-long celebration focuses on the reading of the Quran, it is also marked by fasting from sunup to sundown. During the summer months, fasting can be particularly difficult.

Yvonne Maffei  is the editor and publisher of the blog, My Halal Kitchen, which showcases healthy meals that are permissible under the Islamic faith. She is also the author of the book “Summer Ramadan Cooking.”

She spoke with Current State’s  Emanuele Berry, about faith, food, and how to prepare for this month’s fast.
