Comic book writer Geoff Johns did what many thought impossible. He made Aquaman cool, a feat that only a Spartan could achieve.Johns, an MSU alumnus and this year’s Grand Marshall for homecoming, is DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer. In addition to revamping Aquaman's image, Johns has penned  highly acclaimed stories featuring Superman, the Green Lantern, Teen Titans and his childhood favorite, the Flash.

Johns, who originally hails from Detroit, has also written for the TV shows Smallville and Arrow. Current State’s Emanuele Berry sat down with Johns to discuss why comic book heroes continue to survive. He says that he loves writing about the untapped potential he finds in characters that have been around for a long time.
