Jackson has a new mayor. Jason Smith has been sworn into office. He replaced Martin Griffin, whom he defeated in the November election.Smith says he respects Griffin, but he hadn't been seeing eye to eye with him. He ran on a platform of open door government, and Smith says he knocked on a lot of doors in Jackson during his low-budget campaign. He credits that face to face contact with voters for his election victory.
