Detroit News' Finley on Agema, Patterson fallout

WKAR

The response to comments by Republican National Committeeman Dave Agema of Michigan has intensified in recent days. Agema’s remarks critical of gays and Muslims triggered rebukes from across the political spectrum and has especially embarrassed his fellow Republicans.Last Sunday, three days after Michigan Governor Rick Snyder made a veiled reference to Agema by calling for “greater civility” in his State of the State address, an influential Michigan Republican called Agema out by name.

In a column written by Nolan Finley, editorial page editor of the Detroit News, former chairman of the Michigan Republican party Betsy DeVos railed against Agema’s comments for their “intolerance and insensitivity" and said he should resign his position. In its lead editorial yesterday, the paper agreed.

Finley says the opposition to Agema seems to be growing, and he doesn't see Agema surviving as GOP National Committeeman.
