Wood responds to State of the City, insists on open BWL review

WKAR/Kevin Lavery

In his ninth annual State of the City address last night, Lansing Mayor VirgBernero said the capital city is unquestionably moving forward, but that the city needs to maintain momentum.

The Mayor focused a series of recent successes and future initiatives, but he also drew attention to important challenges, including reforms at the Lansing Board of Water & Light, the city’s questionable financial future and the importance of accelerating regionalism.

The speech was against the backdrop of General Motor’s thriving Lansing Grand River plant.

Longtime city council member Carol Wood responds to the speech and offers her priorities for 2014.

WKAR’s first live pledge drive since federal funding was eliminated is happening now. Our goal for the drive is $60,000 and reaching it will bring us one step closer to closing the federal funding gap.
