Jake Boss Sr.

EAST LANSING, Mich. -  Jake Boss Sr. is one of the most experienced coaches in Michigan, best known for his years with Michigan State baseball.

He’s coached football, wrestling, and basketball, but his real passion is baseball. Within his 45 years of coaching, he’s earned numerous conference, district, and regional coach of the year awards. He was also inducted into the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. Graduating with his Masters from MSU in 1974, he has always been a big Spartan.

Though he is now done with coaching, Boss Sr. is still heavily tied to the program through his son, Jake Boss Jr., who is the current MSU baseball head coach. However, Boss Sr. is well known to all student-athletes through his “Coaching Baseball” class, which is taken by athletes of all different sports.

Known to these athletes as simply “Senior,” he has become a friend, coach, and role model to all his students and players. WKAR's Erin Eschels looks at what makes Boss Sr. tick, even in "retirement".
