Renegade Theatre Festival

Old Town’s Renegade Theatre Festival is celebrating its 10th birthday this year. Current State speaks with co-organizers Chad Badgero and Melissa Kaplan about how the festival has evolved in the past decade and what audiences can expect this weekend.

When Peppermint Creek Theatre Artistic Director Chad Badgero started Renegade Theatre Festival in 2005, he says he just wanted a place to bring together the theatre community in mid-Michigan. Ten years later, the festival has grown to a weekend-long event with dozens of performances all over Old Town. The event attracts playwrights and performers not just from Michigan, but from across the country.

Current State talks with Badgero and festival co-organizer Melissa Kaplan about how the festival has evolved and what they have planned for this weekend.
