MSU expert predicts strong MI summer tourism season

http://www.csus.msu.edu/

It’s the first week of June, soon school will be out of session, and the beaches are beckoning. Michigan is expecting a strong summer tourism season in 2015, as families plan trips to all manner of destinations across the Great Lakes State.2014 was a cooler and wetter summer than normal. Fortunately, no one told the tourists. Hotel occupancy rose more than two percent and car traffic increased about one percent. And with fairly low gas prices and improving employment figures, 2015 looks to be a good year for tourism.

Current State’s Kevin Lavery spoke with Dr. Sarah Nicholls, an assistant professor with the Department of Community Sustainability at Michigan State University.

Kevin Lavery served as a general assignment reporter and occasional local host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered before retiring in 2023.
