Though health insurance has become easier for many people to obtain, there are still some for whom healthcare is hard to access. Carefree Medical provides medical, dental, optometry and behavioral health care to uninsured and underinsured patients of Greater Lansing.

Millions of Americans today do not have health insurance. There are a variety of reasons for that, and much research is still being done to examine the different factors in hopes of finding solutions. But in the meantime, those people need care.

That’s where an organization like Carefree Medical comes in.

The nonprofit was founded in 2004 to serve as a primary care medical office for patients without insurance or without access to affordable care. Today, they serve more than 7,000 patients in the Greater Lansing area.

For Neighbors in Action today we speak with Carefree Medical’s founder Dr. Barry Saltman, and longtime volunteer and retired Nurse Practitioner Kate Lein.
