On Thursday, Lansing will tear down an old auditorium to make way for affordable apartment units.

Later today, Lansing mayor Virg Bernero will help trigger a transformation on the campus of the former Michigan School for the Blind.

Sometime after 10:00 a.m., workers will demolish an auditorium building that’s sat vacant for more than 20 years!

On that site, Indianapolis based The WhitsettGroup will build a new 4-story, 72-unit apartment complex.. most will be designated for affordable housing.

The $12.5 million dollar project is funded partially by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.

In June, Delhi Township opened a 66-unit apartment complex with affordable housing for families, veterans and the disabled.

Prestwick Village was built on the site of a former mobile home park in Holt.
