Tick, tick, tick. Big days are coming, as "Current Sports with Al Martin" prepares for its 1,000th episode on Monday, August 14th. And just short of two weeks past that, old, decrepit, withering Floyd Mayweather will have to put on the gloves and box MMA superstar Conor McGregor. That's at least how the fight is being sold now, with attendance figures in a flux and questions around the interested audience. Why would Mayweather be selling himself that way? Al lets you know his theories before callers plug in their own suspicions. Fight previews are delivered, too. Two callers also make their feelings known on Colin Kaepernick's unemployment, a year after the quarterback kneeled during the national anthem to protest police brutality. Then, Victor Robinson brings movements of equality and diversity close to home. The project coordinator for Peaceplayers International in Detroit, Robinson speaks to the difference sports can make in his hometown. With a basketball, kids learn lessons of acceptance and make lifelong friends in the process. Robinson shares his experience and how the program has enhanced the lives of many Detroiters, and engineer Isaac Constans says that's why basketball is just so go.
