Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions; NFL Regular Season; MSU Football; Nate Atkins; Matthew Stafford; Kenny Golladay; Weekend Winners; JRN 418.

On today's "Current Sports with Al Martin," it's a new NFL season but the same old Detroit Lions. That's at least how it seemed through the first half of Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, but an unlikely comeback pulled the Lions to their first win of the season. Al reels off his takeaways and stars from the game, but while he questions the meaning of game one, he says it continues a trend from last year. Engineer Isaac Constans hones in on one specific player who caught his eyes, and places him in some lofty company. After a caller weighs in, MLive.com Lions beat writer Nate Atkins dives further into the analysis. Atkins breaks down the in's and out's of the 35-23 victory and picks apart the performance of Matthew Stafford following his contract extension. For all that wasn't captured above, "Weekend Winners" nets the rest. Al and Isaac describe why MSU football fans have reason to get excited, and laurels of success are spread elsewhere, as well. Closing the show, meet the two newest members of the Current Sports crew, Casey Harrison and Jon LeBlanc, who will be covering beats for the JRN 418 class.
