Larry Nassar is due back in federal court in Grand Rapids today for sentencing for possession of child pornography.

In July, the former sports medicine doctor pleaded guilty to three counts in federal court related to the possession of thousands of child pornography images. His sentencing is set before Judge Janet Neff at 11 a.m. Those counts carry possible 20-year prison terms, which could be imposed concurrently or consecutively.

This federal case is separate from the criminal cases in Ingham and Eaton Counties, where the former MSU team physician who also worked with athletes at Twistars USA Gymnastics Club in Dimondale and at USA Gymnastics has entered guilty pleas in ten cases in recent weeks. He faces sentencing in those cases in January.

Several gymnasts who say they were assaulted by Nassar while in his care for the treatment of injuries plan to talk with reporters after the child porn sentencing.

Meanwhile, it’s been reported that negotiations to settle federal lawsuits filed by more than 140 abuse survivors against MSU, USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic Committee have failed and are now expected to go to trial.

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
